PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

November 2011

Collective Bargaining:

The Local and two more units Oakville Transit and Cequent Towing have successfully completed with no concessions bargaining once again. Since elected in 2008 we have had 12 rounds of non concessionary bargaining. We have faced many hurdles with each round of bargaining, but have been successful only with the support of the Membership. Congratulations to all of you. This success is only through unity and not division that we could attain this especially through these uncertain times.

Local Union:

We continue to reduce debt costs that have been left to us and have been very effective in recovering what was lost previously. We still have been faced with arbitrations, mediations and W.S.I.B. It is imperative we as a Local Union continue this fight for our Members. This is not a matter of choice when our Members are faced with unjust terminations or disposed of or mistreated because of illness or injury. We cannot and will not stand idle.

Local Economy:

We still have a few units who have layed off members this year. Unfortunately this has not changed. The rest of the Local units are very busy and some have hired. This is good news locally, compared with the uncertainty of the Global economy.

United Way:

Once again I would ask our Members to give to United Way. It is immeasurable the great work that is done by the agencies they support abroad. So many are in need, the haves and the haves not’s continue to be further apart as never before. Change is definitely needed within the way Capital is divided. By giving you are making someone’s life a little better and a whole lot brighter.

Children’s Christmas Party/Winter Fest:

Sunday November 27 make sure you sign up by the 11th so we can get our orders through. This is a tradition that was brought back to our Local Union in 2008. I do believe it is very important we continue this tradition for our Members and their children/grandchildren. Join us. The spirit of Christmas can be very contagious. All members are welcome.

In Solidarity
