Opening in 1992, the TransAlta Energy Corporation's Malton Co- Generation plant was originally staffed and operated by the then McDonnell Douglas Canada. Operators were represented by CAW Local 1967, while maintenance and management came from TransAlta. In 1998 the operators and maintence workers became a seperate unit of Local 1967 and negotiated their first 'stand alone' collective agreement. TransAlta Energy Corporation, with interests in several countries around the world, is a wholly owned subsidiary of TransAlta Corporation, an investor owned corporation, based in Calgary, Alberta. Canada's 26th largest corporation, it is 99% Canadian owned and employs approximately 2,200 people. This unit joined Local 1285 in 2005, following the closure of the Malton Boeing Plant, Local 1967's largest Unit. The plant operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. |
