Sisters and Brothers

The Union and the company have sat down all week, working hard and long hours and have come to a Tentative Agreement to serve both this membership and the Company's interests...although this process of "Contract Extensions” was new to us, we took it in stride and came up with a proposal this committee found exceptional. With all this being said, the meeting on this Sunday January 20th has now officially turned into a ratification meeting. I can't express how "IMPORTANT" it is that each and everyone show up Sunday morning, get the information and make an informed decision. THERE WILL BE A VOTE!! So come out and have a say in the future of OUR workplace.

In Solidarity
Local President and Bargaining Committee

January 03

Over the Holiday Season I received a very important phone call from our National Leadership out in Toronto. It sounds like they have been in talks with the Company and some plans the Company has in terms of plant Expansion and bringing in some new work to our Winnipeg site. The Company has made the National Union aware of the interest they have in Winnipeg and the longevity they see at our Site. This is great news to our workplace and the future of our jobs. With this all being said the Company wants to sit down with myself and the Bargaining Committee and talk about extending the contract.
This does mean our Local will be going into Negotiations early. We have been made aware by the National and the Company that in order to accommodate the Plant expansion and work coming in, we need to settle an extended contract to ensure no” labour disputes” during the peak of this production period. I have been told that this round can potentially be happening as soon as January 14th, 2013. This is not a bad thing, it just means that the Bargaining Committee will be under pressure to protect the interest and job security of our members. We as a membership will have the final say.
