Their mission is to mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting home ownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty. The United Way of Durham Region
The United Way was created in this community over 70 years ago. With the ongoing government cutbacks, many of the agencies the United Way supports would not survive without our help. The United Way of Durham Region helps 50 agencies, which provide more than 300 programs that assist more than 100,000 people throughout our local communities. Volunteers are always welcome. Emergency Shelter for Abused Women and their Children
The Denise House has gained recognition as a valued service and support network for women...women no longer silenced by the violence in their lives. More and more women - from all walks of life - are turning to the shelter for safe accommodations, supportive counselling and information resources. Luke's Place is a non-profit social service agency serving Durham Region, run by a combination of staff and volunteers with the support and guidance of a volunteer Board of Directors.
