Greetings,
In the days and weeks ahead, we will have before us the unique opportunity to put one of our best activists and workers’ advocates in the position of leader of the federal NDP. Long time CAW leader and assistant to the national president Peggy Nash is running for leader of the NDP and she needs our support.
I am confident that with Peggy Nash as leader of the Official Opposition, Canadians will have a better chance of resisting the damaging, unfair policies of the Harper government.
Since the launch of her campaign on October 28, Peggy has been travelling the country and has already met with CAW members in a number of locations, including Halifax, London, Vancouver, Victoria, Montreal, just to name a few. Peggy also addressed the TCA Quebec Council on November 26 and the CAW Council on December 2.
I encourage all our members and others to support Peggy’s campaign, through attending events, volunteering and making a donation, wherever possible. As per the rules of the leadership campaign, no organization can make a donation; only donations from individuals can be accepted.
The vote for the next NDP leader and leader of the Official Opposition will be held at a special leadership convention on March 24, in Toronto. Members can vote at the convention (if they are delegates), or in advance online or by mail-in ballot.
CAW members can only vote for Peggy if they are registered NDP party members. And in order to vote, it’s necessary to be registered by no later than February 17, 2012.
