As a union we need to get involved in our community. Through unionism we can build awareness and do things as a group to benefit our communities.

CAW Local 3003 Canadian Auto Workers donate $5000 to Winnipeg Harvest
The Canadian Auto Workers are pleased to announce that they have donated $5000 to Winnipeg Harvest through the CAW Social Justice Fund- just in time to assist needy families during the Holiday season.

Area Director Dale Paterson, CAW Local 3003 President Darren James and Local 3003 Plant Chairperson Michael Deley (New Flyer Industries) presented Bruce Michalski- Corporate Event Coordinator with the cheque at the Winnipeg Harvest offices on December 21st, 2005.

We were also fortunate to be given a tour to see the sprawling Harvest warehouses and a chance to meet a lot of enthusiastic Winnipeg Harvest volunteers. Winnipeg Harvest is largely a volunteer organization that relies on folks who are willing to pitch in for a few hours a week. From the looks on these folk’s faces, they were all having a terrific time doing something extremely important.

Just some facts:

·In 2004, Winnipeg Harvest distributed 8 million pounds of food.
·More than 35,000 people receive food from Winnipeg Harvest each month.
·45% of those receiving food from Winnipeg Harvest are children.
·Hundreds of caring volunteers donate more than 200,000 hours annually to keep Winnipeg Harvest in operation.

Winnipeg Harvest couldn’t do this work without the help of caring partners in our community. They do not receive operational funding from any level of government nor program funding from the United Way. They rely on the generosity of the community.

CAW Local 3003 Local 3003 Executive Volunteers at Christmas Cheer Board
We all live and work in our communities and that being the case we need to get involved and make them a better place to live and work in, both for our families and other families whether they are union or not.

To that end, our Local executive committee committed themselves to volunteer to deliver Christmas hampers for the Christmas Cheer Board on December the 20th/03.

This is just one of many initiatives we as a Local union will undertake to improve our community and to make it a better one to live and work in.

Let's share the Holiday Season with those who are less fortunate that us.
