Lupus is an auto immune disorder for which there is no cure. The majority of patients with lupus are women, but the disease does affect young children and men. Unfortunately, thousands of people die from lupus each year.

Pride: A view from a Straight Eye
For many of us in this world when we view someone as being different from us this can lead to damaging, discriminating and maybe biased thinking. When people live in fear, because of their life style and values, this is totally inhuman. We might think that such people live far removed from us, but your wrong. We work, do business, attend school and live next door to people whom we feel or know that they are different. In our work place people whom might seem different do the same job, for the same pay as everyone else. Our pay cheques do not reveal any difference from one another, so why must we continue to treat people differently.
CAW Holding A pride spring conference in April.....see news and events.
Our fears, lack of knowledge, prejudices and backward thinking does not allow us to change our entrenched ideas and lack of understanding of different people, therefore we judge people based on our values and standards.
The life of a gay, lesbian, transgender or bi-sexual person conjures up so many misconceptions. There is no sign to say that I am gay, so why do we treat such people so differently. Through the Union I have met the most wonderful person that has taught me about the gay lifestyle, with such class and dignity. He and others just expect to be treated equally.
Whether it is a straight or gay life we lead, we just want to be accepted for who we are. Gays and straights have the same ambitions, dreams, feelings of being hurt, and of course fears of being rejected. We live in a society where we have become more tolerant of differences among people. Still, in our workforce hundreds of gay and lesbians live in fear of being found out they are different. They fear the very people they work with, and this unrelenting fear must be stopped.
Always ask yourself, how would I want to be treated?
