National Day of Commemoration and Action on Violence Against Women
November 14, 2007 - 1:40pm EST
On Dec 6th, 1989 this generation took 14 steps backward. Marc Lepine murdered 14 of Canada's most promising female engineering students at Montreal's Ecole Polytechnique. The shock wave was felt from Vancouver island to Newfoundland and heard around the globe.

It took mere hours, for one man's hate to destroy so much talent, so much hope. When Parliament passed the bill to proclaim this date, it was in the hope that this type of genocide never happens again. Added to the list of 14 is a student from Dawson College who was killed almost two months prior because she was a woman.

Murder victims: Genevieve Bergeron, Helene Colgan, Nathalie Croteau, Barbara Daigneault, Ann-Marie Edwards, Maud Haviernick, Maryse Laganiere, Maryse LeClair, Anee-Marie Lemay, Sonia Pelltier, Michele Richard, Annie St-Anneault, Annie Turcotte and Barbara Jlucznik-Widajewicz, Anastsia De Sousa.
