de Havilland Aircraft Canada supplied more than 17% of allied aircraft during the Second World War.
SPAR Aerospace, the maker of the Canadarm -- Canada`s biggest contribution to space technology -- began in Building #1 and assembled Canada's first spacecraft - Alouette I - and built the innovative STEM antenna for satellites in the building.
The building was assigned the status of Recognized Federal Heritage Building in May 1992 because of its historical associations, and its architectural and environmental value. This means that it is a federal building to which the Minister of Environment has assigned the highest heritage designation and it has to be protected.
Canada has 20 aerospace museums. The United States has 360.
