Committees

Under the CAW Constitution, Local 830 is required to have ten standing committees, as follows. In order for these committees to function properly, we seek both your input and participation. if after reading, you find a committee you feel you could be active or contribute to, please advise your unit chair. Remember, if you are appointed to a committee and there are expenses incurred, same will be covered by Local 830.

Civil, Peace and Human Rights Committee
Jodi-Leigh Lloyd - Chairperson
Members: Committee meets as needed.

This committee will help promote a culture for human rights in the workplace and society and work on developing policies for the Union, which promotes human rights. Members will help coordinate workplace anti-harassment initiatives as well as complaint investigation, and general human rights training programs which fight harassment and discrimination based on race, colour, sex, creed, sexual orientation, disability, religious beliefs or any other prohibited ground.

Constitution and Bylaws Committee

This committee ensures that the by-laws are upheld at all times and that they conform to the CAW National Constitution.



Education and Political Action Committee
Elaine Walker and Josie Haynes - Chairpersons
Members: Committee meets as needed.
Contact the committee:
This committee reviews the educational needs of the Local and establishes workshops throughout the year, Political action is aimed at helping with campaigns in our areas and Local, to make the community aware of such things as our current health care crisis, including long-term care, privatization and other social injustices such as homelessness and cuts to Ontario child welfare.

Election Committee
Betty Hutchinson - Chairperson
Members: Committee meets as needed.

This committee deals with elections with the units by serving nomination papers and posting notices for elections. They also oversee the executive board elections.

Health Care Committee
Mavis Telford - Chairperson
Members: Committee meets as needed.
Contact the committee:
Involved in a number of areas, this committee will look at contracts to choose the most superior language, which can be used at bargaining. They also lead and assist in campaigns in their community as well as the Local.

Health, Safety and the Environment
Everett Payne,James LaBrash - Chairpersons
Members: Committee meets as needed.

This committee gathers information i.e. posters, newsletters and videos to educate members of the local and help set up programs which could reduce or eliminate hazardous conditions in our workplaces.

Licensed Professional and Skilled Trades
Joe Brant - Chairperson
Members: Members meet as needed.
Contact the committee:
Under licensed professionals we are dealing with RPNs and others who work under certificate or registrations. The committee looks at issues not only with our local but across Ontario through the Ontario Health Care Council.

Under skilled trades we work with skilled licensed trades and apprenticeship training and develop professional language covering situation relating to skilled trades and general policy.


Newspaper and Communications
Elaine Walker and Shawna Farell - Chairperson
Members: Members meet as needed.

This group will gather information and pictures to be compiled as a quarterly newspaper and distributed to all units. We strive to establish an open communication link so that all members are kept aware of events both inside and outside the local.

Recreation and Community Services Committee
Josie Haynes - Chairperson
Members: Committee meets as needed.
Contact the committee:
This committee may set up events for members and/or families in various activities i.e. picnics, BBQs, tennis or baseball. They can also support community events.

Women's Committee
Mavis Telford - Chairperson
Members: Committee meets as needed.
Contact the committee:
This committee is responsible for all matters concerning women and equal rights issues and encourages all members in our union to play an active role.
