HOW IT ALL STARTED

FROM SOUTH SHORE TO CAPE BRETON, ALL POINTS IN BETWEEN

CAW/TCA aquired health care workers following the merger with the Canadian Brotherhood of Railways Transport &General Workers union in May 1994. A province wide-council of CAW locals who work exclusively in Health Care have formed the CAW-NS HEALTH CARE COUNCIL. Although Health Care brings to mind most people those in Hospital, our organization includes workers at many nursing home throughout this province. The Local send delegates from Southern Nova Scotia to the tip of Cape Breton Island. The members represented in these Health Care facilities range from Patient Services to Direct Patient Care.

The CAW NS Health Care Council idea was conceived in 1998, however it wasn't until the amalgamation of health care workers in the province of Ontario joining into CAW that we could have a TRULY National Health Care Conference.
