POEM Council was the first regional Recreational Council within the CAW. The acronym, P.O.E.M., represents the original counties from which the CAW locals originate, which included Perth, Oxford, Elgin and Middlesex.
Now, any CAW local from Perth, Oxford, Elgin, Middlesex, Brant, Huron, Norfolk, Waterloo or Wellington can affiliate with POEM Council.
Each Local Union in the POEM Council area is allowed two delegates. The Local’s must notify POEM Council of their delegates. Each Local pays an affiliation cost to be a member of POEM Council which is one cent per member per month.
CAW Local’s that are members of POEM Council include Local 27, Local 88, Local 302, Local 636, Local 1520, Local 1524, Local 1859, Local 1917, Local 2163, Local 2168, Local 4207 and Local 4451.
In the coming months there will be a number of events open to all of it’s 34,000 members.
P.O.E.M Council events include Euchre, Cribbage, Darts, Curling, Golf, Horseshoes, Baseball, Hockey, 5 Pin Bowling, 10 Pin Bowling, Fishing, Trap Shoot and Soccer.
The Locals affiliated with P.O.E.M. Recreation Council meet the first Tuesday of each calendar month.
