Report of The National Retired Workers Council Executive - December 5, 2013
March 11, 2014 - 9:00am EST
Our Executive met on Thursday, December 5th 2013, at the Sheraton Center in downtown Toronto. The meeting lasted all day prior to the Ontario Regional Council meeting on Friday morning.

The following items were discussed during the one day meeting:
- The Retired Workers Council By-Laws changes.
- Future Meeting Dates including Ontario’s Annual Leadership Meeting (usually in May).
- How we should recognize past members on our web site. A committee of Dave Tremblay, Mary Straus and Marg Arnone was set up to develop a form and process. They will report back at the next meeting.
- Retired Workers Council Communication within Unifor – business cards with Unifor information and email, producing a Retired Workers DVD, French translation at all meetings, computer for our Secretary to work with.
- We discussed complaints about our Election at the September 2013 conference.
- There were 2 guest speakers who attended our meeting.

Mike Shields – Unifor National Staff for Campaigns. He spoke about Campaigning; Bills C4 public service; C377 right to work for less; C525 organizing; lobbies; CPP and OAS. The Executive raised the fact that retired workers can and will lobby on Municipal, Provincial and Federal issues as well as demonstrations and Street Theatre. We told Mike that retired workers are willing to help at any time.

John Anderson – he spoke about the formation of a new National Seniors Organization. John wanted Unifor to support his attempts to start a new organization for retired workers. We suggested he join with the National Pensioners Federation. Our Executive voted to continue to support the NPF.

The Ontario Health Coalition Annual Meeting Report, November, 2013 - Speakers at the Conference were Judith Wall, Mike McBane Natalie Mehra and Gordon Brennen spoke about Idle No More, the privatizing hospitals and For Profit Clinics. Copies of the presentation should be found on the OHC web site.

The next meeting of the RWCE will be in April 24, 2014.

Respectfully submitted,

Len Hope, Chair
RWCE – Retired Workers Council Executive
