UNIFOR kick's off the Toronto Labour Day Parade
August 28, 2013 - 12:00pm EST
UNIFOR will be kicking off this yearís Labour Day Parade with a live band starting at 7:30am on the Main Stage at Nathan Phillips Square. The Tom Barlow Band will be providing the entertainment. Everyone is required to be there no later than 7:30am. The theme for this yearís parade is Champions of Fairness and Defenders of Rights.

When you arrive, you will go directly to the main stage area where the National and Local Unions will be assembled. Unifor will have several tables set up where you will need to pick up your t-shirts and wristbands (required to enter the CNE). Volunteers will answer any questions or concerns you may have.

It would be great to have a large turnout to march with us on this important day for Labour, especially with the formation of our new union, Unifor. It will be a very busy schedule so please make every effort to be there before 7:30am.

We will also be having a number of invited speakers and labour leaders who will be joining the new Unifor National President who will be speaking at approximately 8:45am.

Sister Jenny J. H. Ahn, Director, Membership Mobilization & Political Action, will be sending out a detailed Agenda on our speaker line up and other important reminders.

After the speakers are finished, we will assemble on Queen Street for a prompt departure at 9:30am as the Lead group.

As you know, the parade route has been changed slightly from last year as we are not allowed to cross the Dufferin bridge with vehicles Ė it is still accessible on foot. Marshalls will be in the area to assist with this change.

We will also be having balloons, stick-on tattoos and face painting for the kids, so bring your family and make this a great success.

Again, please make every effort to attend and make this Unifor Labour Day celebration one to remember.
